Sub Terra

Short Film. 8 min. Experimental ∙ Animation ∙ Live-Action

Anna Mērnieks-Duffield in 'Sub Terra'

Synopsis:
A routine tree inspection unexpectedly gives way to a journey into the deep. Set in a hidden subterranean world, ‘Sub Terra’ is the haunting mystery of a cryptic, first-person perspective.

The film’s visuals are a shifting blend of 2D animation, 3D animation, photogrammetry, motion capture, and live-action material. The film’s 5.1 mix is entirely without dialogue, embracing surreal texture, mood, and a visceral sense of off-screen space.

“It draws attention – quite haptically, almost – to the unthinking ways in which we intervene in even the tiniest and most hidden of lives.”
